Bladen County Day Treatment & School-Based Counseling

Coastal Horizons Center operates two Day Treatment Program in conjunction with Bladen County School System. These programs are located at Elizabethtown Primary School and Elizabethtown Middle School. These programs serve as part of a multidisciplinary team with family, students, educators, and other mental health providers to ensure success in achieving goals set out by the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Person-Centered Plan (PCP). Students are taught positive problem-solving skills through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and appropriate social interaction skills by interacting with and role-modeling by all staff. Day Treatment is available for Kindergarten through 8th grade students year round. Juvenile Crime Prevention Council funding also allows for the evidence based Aggression Replacement Training (ART) group therapy to occur in local middle and high schools. School-Based Outpatient services are also offered in many of the Bladen County Schools.  All programs can receive referrals from school personnel, community partners, or self-referral.

Wilmington Health Access for Teens

School-based health care is widely considered one of the most cost-effective strategies for delivering integrated health care, including mental health and prevention services, to adolescents – an often hard-to-reach population with many diverse health needs. Services are convenient – located on school campus – affordable and confidential, minimizing many of the barriers to health care access for students, such as scheduling, transportation and financial hurdles.  Coastal Horizons provides mental health, substance use, and prevention services in several schools throughout the county, and primary care services on 4 high school campuses, via Coastal's Wilmington Health Access for Teens (WHAT). For more information about the comprehensive services of WHAT of Coastal Horizons, please check out our website at www.whatwilmington.org, or view our video on YouTube or Vimeo.
